I have been here for two weeks now and finally found my path through the great firewall of China in the form of a VPN service called Astrill. I have quite a bit to update on so will start adding a lot of posts in the next few days to catch up to my current status.
For now I will be signing off, rest assured there will be quality updates added soon.
